Uncovering today’s world of materialism

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

Consumerism today is all about ‘he who has the most possessions wins’!  Unfortunately there is a widespread mindset that more ‘things’ will make you happier, make people like you better, and lead to a better and more fulfilled life. Think about the things that turn heads and have people talking. Consider the things that create the impression of money and wealth. Outward appearances can be deceiving, but we soon forget that important fact.

Materialism has reached an all time high with most people in the developed world. That is evident through their willingness to sacrifice financial independence and financial security for designer clothes, elaborate home furnishings, expensive jewelry, pleasure boats, seaside vacation homes, and a multitude of other items. Just whip out the plastic cards and it’s instant gratification!

People have been too busy figuring out what to buy next and looking at what others have accumulated. Envy, greed, and obsession have created a world where credit cards and materialism are the norm.  There is an outrageous desire to spend money just to outwardly demonstrate that one is wealthy – or at least, perceived to be wealthy.  If people
would really stop and look, they may discover that these are not really their goals. They are goals that have been influenced and determined by someone else.

The worst thing of all, is that they don’t know how to change. They’re scared to think about change and they don’t know where to start. They’ve dug a deep hole and rather than struggling to climb out of the hole, it’s just easier to keep digging.

The ebook ‘Simply Living Debt Free‘ covers and explains a number of strategies to change the downward debt spiral.  It is your guide to evaluating your life as it is right now and identifying the changes you need to make in the most important areas. Whether you’re struggling financially, emotionally, physically, or spiritually, this must have manual provides a wealth of specific strategies you can use now to re-route your life’s road map and live the life you always dreamed of living!

Wishing You Every Success,

Self Defense For Women

Thursday, June 11th, 2009

Unfortunately, Self defense for women has become important as well as necessary in today’s world and that is something that was not considered to be necessary in years gone by.   The ever increasing reports of violence against women and younger children, is disturbing, and one wonders why this is so.  One likely consideration is – that there seems to have been a real deterioration of respect for fellow human beings, in today’s society.   In many cases women are targeted because, generally speaking their physical stature is not developed in the same way as most men, and that can quite often be seen as an opportunity, by the cowardly proponents of violence.

Properly organized training in self defense for women can be a step in the right direction to limit violent attacks, and even prevent serious injury.  One important point for women to consider is to develop a strong level of awareness of how other people around them are acting, particularly if they are walking, jogging, or even riding a bicycle in areas outside of their own property.  Most of these undesirables that prey on women and even young children use the “element of surprise” to gain an advantage in order to commit their act of violence.   Obviously, there are additional techniques that can be taught from martial arts courses or books and audio instructions that will assist in improving self defense for women.   It is vital for women in today’s society to be able to move around freely in any areas outside their own property with the confidence of knowing how to adequately defend themselves, or even effectively avoid an imminent attack from someone who has the intentions of inflicting some form of violent act upon them.

There is a simple and cost effective way of learning these skills from the comfort of your home and that can be obtained through a very well written publication entitled Self Defense – a practical guide to self defense for women.    It is available for instant download at the link and there is also a convenient audio CD that is supplied with the e-Book as well.

Traveling the World

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Traveling the World is something that some of us are lucky enough to do during our lives, but after 25 years of Traveling the World, mainly as part of my job, I have concluded that everyone should take the opportunity to do this at some time in their lives.   Whether it is for work or pleasure the thrill and excitement of Traveling the World goes on forever due to the many different sights and experiences that are available for those who take the opportunity.  Traveling the World can also give you an opportunity to – put into perspective – the cultural, climatic, and geographical differences between your own Country and those that you choose to visit.  It can be quite stimulating, and gratifying to learn about differences in other Countries, and generally with this understanding comes a more mature outlook, and tolerance of other cultures.

Of course most people love to Travel the World for vacations and this can definitely be a very exciting time.   There are so many wonderful places to choose from when Traveling the World so that is not really the problem, but you can avoid disappointment by getting as much advice as possible about the best tips for traveling on a budget, or getting the best travel deals.  There are also many travel industry secrets to learn about that can make your travels so much more enjoyable.   Just remember always respect and abide by the laws of any foreign Country you may visit, make sure your passport still will have at least 6 months validity before expiry after you return to your home Country, and at all times be careful and have fun.  Traveling the World has given me so much enjoyment over the last 25 years, and I am so grateful that I have been fortunate to have been given this opportunity.

Parenting and Raising Children

Thursday, June 4th, 2009

Parenting and raising children would have to be the one of the most difficult tasks that anyone could undertake in their lifetime.  Dealing with the normal stresses of modern life, and then having to cope with the different personalities of each child is a monumental task.  So many people though, don’t fully consider all the implications when starting a family, and in lots of cases the new Parents are not really to blame because quite often the challenges of raising children are not fully explained to them before they start.

One of the biggest problems facing western society in the 21st. century is the deterioration of discipline among the younger generations.  What I mean by discipline is not excessive physical abuse to create a submissive individual, who is afraid to do anything, but more importantly providing a continuing education for children to get the understanding of right from wrong, and also to educate them to observe the general laws, and rules of a civilized society.  With constant verbal reinforcement, children can be made to understand that there will usually be consequences associated with their actions.  Simply put, good actions generally result in good consequences, and vice versa for bad actions.  The resulting consequences can be delivered in the form of privileges either being allowed or taken away from children depending on their actions.  It has always amazed me to see young people and children rebelling with unacceptable behavior just to gain recognition or attention, when that attention could still be forthcoming if the child engaged in something constructive to gain the attention.  Overall, the constructive action type of behavior provides a much better outcome for all concerned, by reducing or even eliminating parenting stress.

Photovoltaic Systems Vs. Solar or Heat Pump Water Heaters

Monday, June 1st, 2009

Another method of reducing the effects of Global warming is to use Photovoltaic (PV) systems.  However, these products use a totally different type of technology than what is used for “thermal water heating” to convert radiation from the sun into useable electricity, through storage batteries and inverters.  Whilst most people are looking to “save” electricity by creating electricity from PV systems, these systems do not offer the same level of economic benefits as a solar or heat pump water heaters.   At present, most PV systems provide an efficiency level of approximately 17% which means they can convert approximately 17% of any available radiation into useable electrical energy.  On the other hand the technology used for solar water heater collector panels for instance, has been developed over many years with most systems on the market today offering efficiency levels of 70% and sometimes higher.  This in turn means solar thermal water heater panels can convert approximately 70% of any radiation that is available into heating energy for the water.

In a general domestic household situation, particularly in developed Nations, the energy needed to heat the water in a standard electric hot water system can represent between 40% and 60% of the total energy use of that household.  Solar or Heat Pump Water Heaters can save up to 80% of that energy which works out to be almost 40% to 50% of the total energy requirement of each household.  If this is then compared to an average saving of around 17% in energy use from Photovoltaic (PV) Systems, it is easy to see that at this point in time, solar or heat pump water heaters offer a better financial outcome for home owners.  However, in Commercial applications such as hotels, motels, larger restaurants, gymnasiums, and many other similar institutions, the sheer level (kW) of energy that can be saved by using large capacity commercial heat pump water heaters is enormous.  Some Governments are offering attractive rebate schemes to encourage commercial users to take advantage of these energy efficient appliances, and it will be these installations (particularly the commercial type) that will have a significant impact on Global Warming.
